The 6-hour Sleep - (Schwarzenegger's Secret)
Phones belong on nightstands at night. Sleep only the minimum amount you need. My tips you can dream about...
Tried sleeping 6 hours last night – “SLEEP FASTER” advice from my fellow church member Arnold Schwarzenegger.
It seemed to work. It didn’t other nights.
The secret?
Work out, go to bed early, and don’t play with the phone.
Phones belong on nightstands at night.
I think what Schwarzenegger means when he says "SLEEP FASTER" is that we waste a lot of time preparing for bed, looking at the phones, and not being physically tired enough for sleep. Maybe our room isn't dark enough. Maybe it's too loud in the room. When it's time for sleep it's TIME FOR SLEEP.
I personally solved the darkness problem by getting an incredible sleep mask - the Manta. I solved the noise problem with reusable silicone ear plugs.
Pray I have the discipline to carry out my sleep routine in the future.
Being a solopreneur requires discipline AND courage. I work on it everyday, including sleeping well.
Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mentor
Arnold Schwarzenegger has a lot of deep advice. He's lived a long, unique, life. He's literally the embodiment of the American Dream.
Some things I admire about Arnold:
- His work ethic
- His German / Austrian references intrigue me - he looks at life through a different lens than native-born Americans ["wenn schon, denn schon" - do it fully or don't do it]
- He came to California from Austria and stayed in California
- He speaks his mind
- He's somewhat religious
- He's community-minded
- He STILL WORKS (or "WERKS" 😀)!
I read his book, Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life. A Great read.
Arnold Schwarzenegger - Be Useful - Book Notes
These are the notes I gathered from reading the book:
-
Set Small Daily Goals: Start with small, manageable goals that you can achieve daily. This builds momentum and gradually expands your vision.
-
Create Space for Inspiration: Dedicate time each day for activities that allow your mind to wander and find inspiration, like walking, exercising, or relaxing in a quiet space.
-
Stay Positive: Focus on being ruthlessly positive, even when surrounded by negativity. This mindset helps combat feelings of helplessness and apathy.
-
Communicate Your Vision: Clearly communicate your goals and the journey to those around you. This helps garner support and makes the journey more meaningful.
-
Be Adaptable: Be prepared to shift gears and find new ways to overcome obstacles. Flexibility is key to navigating challenges.
-
Acknowledge Help: Recognize and appreciate the support you receive along the way. Giving back is an essential part of the journey.
-
Use Physical Activity for Clarity: Engage in physical activities like gym workouts, skiing, or bicycling to clear your mind and generate new ideas.
-
Limit Distractions: Put away devices and create time for uninterrupted thinking and creativity. This helps in the discovery process.
-
Learn from Surroundings: Keep an open mind and learn from your environment. This helps in finding new solutions and staying inspired.
-
Be Useful: Strive to be useful to others. This not only helps them but also brings fulfillment and purpose to your own life.
The theme of the book is a phrase he father mentioned to him... "Be useful, Arnold!" I feel like we are on this earth to be useful to others. This is something personal development coach Jim Rohn spoke of often when he was alive.
Let's take Arnold's advice and Be Useful... and get a quality sleep.
