The Next Social Network for Creators: Threads

As Threads continues to evolve, it presents a unique opportunity for early adopters to establish a strong presence and capitalize on the platform's momentum.

You may have noticed social media dying - more clickbait videos and TV-like content. Content from friends and your industry can get buried. Getting little exposure usually means you're late, or the algorithm radically changed. Luckily, there's usually a new spot where you can get heard, and right now, that place is Threads. It's the network I'm seeing the most engagement right now.

Threads has 175 million active users... it's growing a lot. I think Meta realizes Instagram changed so much from its original vision that it created a new space for ordinary creators - a Twitter / X like competitor.

Meta is pushing Instagram users to Threads in a big way - auto cross-posting and Threads promotions in Instagram. A social media network is only useful if there are large numbers of users creating content. I definitely see a change and think we are at a tipping point.

Here are some reasons Threads is hot right now:

  • Other networks are dying for regular users
  • Twitter / X has been getting a lot of attention and Zuckerberg wants to compete
  • Meta pushing Threads heavily
  • Threads users mentioning they like the new platform and saying it reminds them of the old Twitter and old-style social networking they loved
  • There are no ads yet
  • The algorithm seems to surface relevant content
  • Threads posts with 0 likes appear next to posts with hundreds - everyone can get a shot at attention right now

This creates a lot of opportunity for marketers and people with a message to spread.

The desktop site has a TweetDeck-style multiple column view. This is free. X / Twitter charges for this functionality.

I can see more tools built out around improving the experience for power users. There are also lower costs for using the API, so coders looking to build tools that interface with Threads can do so much cheaper than X / Twitter. This will create a flourishing ecosystem.

In summary, I see a lot of opportunity and I am pushing all clients and future clients to utilize the platform. Don't forget to follow me there - @KenMorico on Threads. Let's chat when you get there.
