Hello friend, it's been awhile since I've sent an email but I have some trends to discuss and tactical information to drop. I've recently become a father for the first time so my time has become scarcer and scarcer, but it's forced me to focus, think about the massive pivots happening in social media, SEO, and people's attention in general.
The world is moving to short-form videos like TikToks, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Video is grabbing all attention. Why is short-form video so effective and popular now? It's because the format is fantastic... it's like watching TV and flipping channels with full-screen video formatted for the device we are using - the smartphone.
If we have a lot of content to show our users but are limited to 1 or 2 minute videos, what can we do? Make more videos. Distill information to its essential core.
How do we approach SEO in this video-first world? Link out. If videos are catchy, create links to longer textual content in video descriptions and bio links. I've had success with this in my YouTube video description areas.
Pivot. Take action. See the needle move.
Tactical Quick Tips
- When creating a call-to-action in an Instagram post, link to your bio in the description by writing your username - "...check out more details in my bio -> @KenMorico" The username will be hyperlinked to your profile and users can click the bio link
- Store articles you want to share with others using Instapaper. Create a "social share" folder to separate them from personal articles. Being a curator is awesome too.
